2013 Honors Division

The Academy of Science - St. Louis Science Fair Honors Division was held February 2, 2013. Additionally, Honors Division students are invited to bring their projects to the Academy of Science - St. Louis Science Fair for grades K-12 in Queeny Park to compete for additional Special Awards.

1st Place - Uttara Chakraborty, Grade 12 - Homeschool - Project Title: A New Stochastic Optimization Algorithm with Adaptive Penalty and its Markov Chain Analysis - Award: $3,000 scholarship; will represent Academy of Science - St. Louis at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Phoenix in May and will be recognized at the Academy of Science - St. Louis Outstanding Scientist Awards Dinner at the Chase Park Plaza in April. Additional awards: United States Navy Award and National Society of Professional Engineers; 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair - 2nd place - Award $1,500 and American Statistical Society Award - $1,500

2nd Place - Katie Hufker, Grade 11, Lindbergh High School - Project Title: Sibs of the spectrum: evaluating support groups for those who have a sibling with autism - Award: $2,000 scholarship; will represent Academy of Science - St. Louis at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Phoenix in May and will be recognized at the Academy of Science - St. Louis Outstanding Scientist Awards Dinner at the Chase Park Plaza in April. Additional Awards: LMI Science Award and American Psychological Association Award.

3rd Place - Hannah Weidner, Grade 12, Parkway Central High School - Project Title: Pseudo-Estrogen Bisphenol A Alters Normal Drosophila Development - Award: 1,000 scholarship and will be recognized at the Academy of Science - St. Louis Outstanding Scientist Awards Dinner at the Chase Park Plaza in April. Additional award: St. Louis Medical Society Science Award
